OUR HISTORY

Calling and Experience

Calling and God's love paves the way

Sport was a significant part of our founder's life. Kevin Good found success as an athlete and a context to apply himself and find the motivation to perform in school. Through God's provisions and much effort, determination, and practice, he received a scholarship to a Division One School for Soccer and played professionally. Without a scholarship, he would not have had the opportunity to attend college, develop essential character traits, and expand his horizons.

In his mid-twenties, he received a sense of calling after mentoring a few of his students. The calling was to share the Love of God through providing support and services for boys with limited resources who lived in challenging situations.

To pursue the calling, He and his wife moved to Baltimore City, where they lived and raised their family for over twenty years. During that time, he started two Christian Nonprofits and continued to develop his youth programming and executive skills. He also deepened his understanding of youth and the challenges that can cause them to lose hope and a sense of the future. By walking alongside boys and families who experienced loss, pain, and injustice, he became more equipped to create effective solutions.

In 2022, he pulled from his over 25 years of experience and created a unique nonprofit that combined various proven strategies and created BSA.

THE NEED

For many youths, access to holistic, relational, and faith-based programs is limited by financial constraints, a lack of transportation, and other family and community dynamics. We provide exceptional quality in a smaller group setting and intentionally address the whole person in foundational developmental areas.

Without intervention, they miss out on the benefits of participation and can become isolated and more vulnerable to at-risk behaviors. Unfortunately, they often experience mental illness, low school performance, anti-social behaviors, addiction, and other destructive patterns that can lead to violence and early death.

FACTS

  • BSA focuses on communities in East Baltimore County, where over 2000 youth attend local schools. BSA serves youth in Inverness and Dundalk; in its first year, over 150 participants were involved.
  • BSA has a community-based program model with a vision to serve its community, intentionally develop youth leaders, and hire local staff.

FINANCIALS

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on donations from our partners who value our mission. All donations are tax-deductible and are tracked with our proven donor management and financial software systems. Our bookkeeper has extensive experience and training in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.

We charge minimal program fees, which cover approximately 33% of our budget. Each year, we must raise scholarship funds to meet the gap between our fees and expenses to sustain and expand our operations. Our grassroots approach keeps costs down, as well as in-kind gifts, but without the generous donations of our partners, the ministry could not exist.
